Barrel Aged Common Grounds is a collaboration between Magic Rock Brewery and Dark Woods Coffee. It started with Dark Woods providing coffee for Magic Rock’s triple coffee porter. Now, this relationship has gone full circle with Magic Rock ageing Dark Woods’ coffee beans from Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, in their Bourbon whiskey barrels for a couple of weeks before roasting. This adds sweet vanilla, desiccated coconut and funky whiskey notes to the tangy cassis, dried fruit, milk chocolate and forest fruit flavours. Mesmerising stuff for beer geeks, Bourbon drinkers and coffee lovers. Based in a riverside Victorian textile mill surrounded by the moors, drystone walls and woods of West Yorkshire Pennines, Dark Woods roast up treats for connoisseurs on a vintage Probat drum roaster. Working with the finest grades of coffee, i.e. nothing that cores below 80% in Speciality Coffee Association grading, they create clean coffees that sing of the farmers that grew them and the lands they come from. Which is probably why they’ve been awarded so many Great Taste Awards.
