Whip up that restaurant vibe and a touch of the exotic in your own kitchen with Nonya Secrets. An authentic Thai Red Curry in little more than ten minutes? Even takeaways can’t deliver that quickly. Laced with lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime, spices, garlic and shrimp paste, all you have to do is add coconut milk and your protein and vegetables of choice. Well, that’s dinner sorted. Nonya Secrets was founded by Maureen Suan Neo, who grew up as the daughter of Straits Chinese parents in Singapore. Throughout history, Chinese immigrants have settled on the Malay Peninsula and often married into local families. The female children of these unions are referred to as Nonyas, the male as Babas, and the community as Peranakan. So, Nonya Secrets is an introduction to that cosmopolitan and colourful fusion of Asian heritage through food and the women who cook it. Moving to the UK, Maureen and her husband opened five restaurants in London called Singapura, serving up that wonderful contrast of sweet and umami, and the heavenly melange of hot spices, tangy tamarind and silky-smooth coconut. And now she’s branched out into these beautifully packaged and vibrant cooking sauces so that you can learn the joy of Nonya Secrets at home.
