Hematite is an iron oxide with the same crystal structure as that of ruby and sapphire. The color varies from grey to red and is mined in Brazil, Germany, and the United States. The type of hematite that looks like a bunch of grapes pushed together, and particularly liked by collectors, is called kidney hematite.
